About the Instructor

Miran Reynolds began training in the martial arts at the Shoto-Te Karate Club in Susanville, CA in 1975. His first instructor had black belts in Kenpo and Shotokan. Miran Reynolds later trained in Goju Ryu Karate, and Wing Chun Kung Fu with instructor Jerry Peavey.

Eventually, Miran Reynolds began training with Charles J. Gray. Charles Gray Sensei trained in Shoto Kai and Shotokan. Miran Reynolds earned his First Degree Black Belt in 1978 and later earned his Second Degree Black Belt in 1982 under Charles Gray.

Miran Reynolds began teaching martial arts in 1980 through the Susanville, CA Parks and Recreation Department. He has taught in Sacramento at the Way of Japan Karate School. He also taught when he was in the Air Force at Beale AFB, and at the Shotokan Karate Schools Inc. in Oroville, CA. He has owned and operated previous karate dojos in Susanville, CA and in Alturas, CA.

While he was attending college at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA, Miran trained under Robert Meyer and earned a First Degree Black Belt in Kenpo on August 9, 1983. Robert Meyer later affiliated with Ed Parker and the International Kenpo Karate Association.

In 1984, Miran Reynolds opened a dojo in Susanville, CA. This dojo was called the Shotokente Karate Dojo.

Charles Gray Sensei later became the head of The U.S. Shinote Karate Association through the Shoto Kai. Charles Gray also had a sister organization called The U.S. National Karate Confederation, Inc. Miran Reynolds then earned his Third Degree Black Belt under Charles Gray in 1990.

In 1994 Miran Reynolds opened a dojo in Alturas, CA. He reopened again in Alturas in 2005. 

Miran Reynolds has taught several students privately for their senior project required for graduation from Modoc High School. Miran Reynolds opened the current Shotokan Karate Dojo in Alturas, California in May of 2014. This dojo is now in its 9th year. The dojo is affiliated with the Independent Karate Schools of America and the U.S. Shinote Karate Association.

On September 28, 2019, Miran Reynolds was promoted to Fourth Degree Black Belt by the Independent Karate Schools of America. Miran Reynolds was promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt on September 30, 2023. 

Miran Reynolds holds black belts in Shinote, Shotokan, and Kenpo. He has placed in many martial art tournaments in California, Nevada, and Oregon. Many of his students have won trophies and medals in both traditional and open tournaments in California and Oregon. He is the National Director for the U.S. Shinote Karate Association.
